Industry Insights: Mapping the Network with SDN

July 16, 2025

With the rise of AI in operations, software-defined networking or SDN is more important than ever. AI offers enhanced analytics, but SDN provides the core management needed to process the data efficiently. With SDN, you avoid bottlenecks, which ultimately leads to a better understanding and mapping of the network.

Understanding the Complexity of Networks

Despite the benefits that integrating SDN has on modernizing operations, it can be complex. This is especially the case when you are dealing with a facility or plant that consists of hundreds of assets. At DYNICS, we have worked with clients that aren’t even aware of the number of assets communicating in their network or the level of traffic occurring. In order to map this sort of situation, you need a keen understanding of both traditional and new OT and IT based operations, the process of segmentation and micro-segmentation, the flow of data, and security maintenance.

Achieving Clear Operational Direction

Not only do we have all of the expertise listed above, but our approach is contained. Unlike the VLAN type, we do not need to rely on bringing in an outside third party to identify all of the connected elements. In turn, we are able to save time, which is critical particularly when you are considering the need for network safety. We’ve also developed products such as our switch that simplify the mapping out the network. Ultimately, this map provides end users not just with a sense of ease, but with visibility. Visibility creates awareness, and awareness leads to proactive strategies, which is how stronger operations are achieved.
